Weekends always go too fast!
This weekend we really wanted to bundle the girls up and take them to the winter carnival in St Paul. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favor, at all! I am sure all of the ice sculptures are melting now too. Its really sad. So instead of going out on Saturday, we ended up hanging out at home. I came across a bunch of paint samples so Tim and I picked a few colors. The color of most of our walls now isn't too bad, but I bought the same paint hoping to fix up some spots when we first moved in. It didn't work out like we had hoped, even though it was mixed the same as the original paint, they said they base must have changed because you can tell the places that I touched up. Even if you can't tell very well unless the light hits it right, it still really bothers us! And the color seems like its very cold to me. Cold colors aren't my favorite! We decided that we are going to paint about 1 room each month.
Sunday we worked in the nursery at church, where we had 13 kids. It was a lot! After church we went to do some errands. We went to Menards in Eden Prairie. They are closing the end of next month to rebuild, so everything was 20% off yesterday. Tim and I love that store! We stocked up on painting supplies and bought 2 gallons of paint to paint 2 different rooms. We also got another sump pump so we can pump water outside to our water hose this summer. Evidently our house was built on a spring and since our basement is further into the ground than all of the split level homes around we have a problem with water in the basement. Its fine as long as the sump pump works, but it literally pumps water out multiple times a day. So we figured we might as well put the water to good use and have a beautifully watered lawn this summer for free! Tim loves working on the lawn, I think its because he used to work as a landscaper before we got married.
After we got home from Menards, the kids went down for naps and I started painting. We are starting with the entry way hallway. We picked a color called summer rye. I really like it! Ella gave me her approval several times and Tim likes it too. Now I just have to wait for a time where Tim can help me with the high parts since he has a ladder for work that we can use. The next wall we are going to paint is our really high one. It actually goes into our living room and kitchen. We are going to paint it a brown color, I can't remember what the official name is!

A little update on our family!
Ella
* absolutely loves her ecfe class. she tells me that she can't wait to go to school and yesterday she didn't want to leave! she told the teacher that she wanted to stay for more school! yesterday was her second class and she is now participating in the song time at the end and it is so cute to see! she is definitely one of the most outgoing ones there. she also loves her mommy to be with her. i left the room for a moment yesterday and she got a little teary eyed and wanted to know where i was. luckily she also also easy to calm down now which is great because when she was younger if she was upset that her daddy or i left her in the nursery she would just scream and scream and there would be no consoling her. she also loves her teacher of her class. she is also starting to be a lot more loving to people she doesn't know very well. yesterday she randomly went and sat on another mom's lap! she will also give other kids hugs sometimes. she is changing so much this way! she used to not like cuddling at all and she wouldn't give anyone except for tim and i hugs and kisses.
* she is now able to sing most of the alphabet in order. she is also very interested in letters and can identify most of them!
* she used to know her colors perfectly and she we think she is trying to be goofy! if we ask her what color something is she will tell us the wrong color with a smirk on her face. we caught on to this and started agreeing with her. then she would correct us and tell us the right color! caleb used to do this too. silly children!
* she tells us all the time that her favorite colors are pink and green! i guess i predicted that pretty well when i painted her room!
* she also loves to be matching with her sister. she identifies what lucy is wearing and wants to wear the same thing. they have really only have a couple of pieces that are exactly identical, and if put it on lucy she knows that she has the matching one and has to redress herself so they match. otherwise if lucy is wearing leggings then she wants to wear them too. its quite interesting how opinionated ella is with what she wears! luckily i can easily redirect her choice if she picks out something crazy. sometimes she even tells me that what i picked out her is weird and she doesn't want to wear it. she had a really cute bow in her hair the other day and she took it out saying "this is goofy mommy!"
* she can also fully dress herself. one sunday i had picked out her outfit the night before and there were actually 2 outfits sitting on her dresser. i went to do something else and she found me wearing both of the outfits! i should have taken a picture. its was very funny! she was wearing a dress with a skirt underneath, leggings and her sweater. she looked very sincere about her outfit too.
* she also loves to count and guess peoples ages! she can count up to 29 now. she never guesses ages appropriately. but it is fun to hear her try! on my mom's birthday she said that she turned 3! another day she told us she was 24. silly girl! she is trying to grow up too fast already! soon she will be able to say she is 2 and a half, honestly. she already tries that one.
* we have started looking at preschools for her. she could technically start in the fall right after she turns 3. however, she would be in 2 years of preschool then and we just don't think she needs to. the main reason is the expense. we are thinking about sending her to the wooddale preschool which is quite a drive (about 40 mins away) but its reasonably priced and it is a christian school which i would love! i went there for preschool too. its about $115 a month. i can also justify the drive since thats about how far i have to drive anyway to do grocery shopping and errands. i could just schedule it so i can do my errands on the 2 days i bring her to school. our other option is belle plaine. its a little cheaper each month which will really add up through the year. and it is obviously closer. the only thing is that we would really prefer the christian school if we could. we will have to see when it gets closer!
* we are also pretty decided on where she is going to go to kindergarten. if all goes well she can stay there until 6th grade. its called cologne academy. its about 15 mins away, and its actually the town that tim would really like to live someday. the town is very small, but its growing. its also closer to shopping and other stuff. cologne academy is a charter school where parents are really involved. there are also many people highly involved that are also in leadership in churches that are connected with ours. it just opened recently and its a beautiful new building! the kids wear uniforms. it really seems like a private school, but its free. i would love to send my kids to a private school but we just can't afford it right now. people ask me all the time if i am going to homeschool. i am not against homeschooling at all, but we just feel like this option of this charter school seems really great right now. if it doesn't go well or if there are any big issues i won't hesitate to pull her out and homeschool her.
* she loves to have special time with daddy! last night i went shopping by myself. once upon a time ella used to cry and cry to come with me when i would leave. last night she saw i was leaving and said bye mommy!!! she then went on to tell me she was going to play with babys (dolls) with daddy. i'm sure he loved that! ;)
* ella is also excited to be enrolled in a dance class next fall.
lucy
* is such a joy! you just can't help fall in love with her sweet personality.
* went to sibcare for the first time yesterday! my mom normally watches her for the hour we have ella's ecfe class, but something came up yesterday. i was a little concerned because she loves her mommy and has never been left with anyone but tim and her grandma. they said she did really well especially with never being left with a strange person before. she was incredibly happy to see me though! she couldn't stop smiling and kicking her legs because she was so excited. she didn't want to take a nap when we got home either. she was so tired, but she was just so happy for me to hold her. i love that baby girl!
* she has finally started going to bed at a time that a baby should go to bed! around 8! you have no idea how excited i am about this. i feel like i finally have some more free, me time!
* she still isn't officially crawling, but i can trick her into creeping a ways. i just find a toy she reeeally wants and she will do anything to get it.
* she is sitting up in the tub now. i love being able to have both girls in the tub together. its so much easier and they love to play in the bath! its some great entertainment for them both.
* we are still amazed at her talking. she is consistently saying ella, momma and dadda at appropriate times. if ella has been playing with her and she leaves she will say ella and fuss as though she wants her to come back. she won't say dadda all day and when she sees him she gets so excited to see him screaming dadda. and she says momma when i'm around. my parents tell me i was an extremely early talker and they remember me talking even more than ella is now. ella said her first word before she was 6 months. she said uh oh when her nuk fell out of her mouth. so evidently its genetic and i am going to have 2 talkers.
* she is also sitting in carts now. we have retired ella to the back of the cart and she is completely fine with it. lucy loves sitting in the front of the cart. she looks so proud of herself! she also looks so little! it takes a lot longer to shop when she isn't hiding under all her blankets in her car seat. we get stopped a lot and people tell me that she is the cutest baby they have ever seen! literally, i have gotten that a lot! i of course love hearing how cute my baby is, even though a know very well how cute she is!
* she is following ella's growth pattern pretty well, and she is actually a little smaller than ella. everyone tells us how little she is and they can't believe she is 7 months! i am not at all concerned because she is eating well. and its just so funny to me how ella was little like that and now she looks like she is 3! everyone guesses ella is 3 now. lucy is still in 3-6 month clothes and is wearing some 6-9 month clothes even though they are big. there really isn't much different i have found in the sizes! she has a lot of cute stuff she needs to be able to wear before summer! but unfortunately we do have awhile before summer.
Tim
* is still working hard at mediacom! even though he isn't in love with his job, we have found it to be such a blessing! some of the reasons why include that there are a lot of benefits that actually save us money, but it isn't reflected in our income. like, he has a company vehicle so we don't need an extra car and we don't spend our own money filling it with gas. we also have free internet and cable. we don't have just basic cable either! we have the full package and we only have to pay 5 bucks a month to rent the box. we love our dvr and the movies on there! we never pay to watch movies anymore, the only problem we have is finding good ones! there is so much garbage out there. we also have great medical insurance! we were sent cvs pharmacy cards awhile ago and i wasn't sure what it was for... so i went to cvs last night and used it. turns out that we get a bunch of extra discounts when we shop there, from cvs and our insurance company! since our actually income number isn't as high as it would be if we didn't get these extra benefits we were able to qualify for some things that have really helped us! including medical assistance and financial aid. and since we are on medical assistance we automatically qualify for wic. lucy wouldn't have been able to be put on formula if we didn't have that assistance!
* he is also working hard at school and taking a stats class at the moment. i don't envy him at all. i am not good with numbers at all! but he is great at math. i guess its a good thing! we balance each other well!
* he is also waking at around 5 most days to do homework. he seems to be adjusted to this early morning schedule. we drink a lot of coffee!
Jessica
* i am really enjoying shopping lately. i used to shop all the time, but with 2 kids its just easier staying at home and i really have become a home body. although i love this time of year because of all the clearances! i try to stock up this time of year so i can save money in the long run.
* i have also discovered that i have been sleeping too much!!! this sounds so weird, i know. but i never knew that sleeping too much can have the same adverse effects that not getting enough sleep has. i have been sleeping less and feeling better and i haven't been as tired! my children have also started waking up earlier, though. maybe lucy's reason is that she is going to bed earlier. i am not sure what ella's reason is. but she is starting to nap a little more consistently.
* yesterday we had a playdate with some friends! ella's friend mason came over. he is a couple months younger than ella. and megan is a couple months younger than lucy. i took care of them all for about an hour while their mom ran an errand to help her brother who was stuck at a gas station with no wallet and no gas for his car. it went very well! i found myself thinking that i could handle 4 kids. especially since it was almost like having 2 sets of twins less than 2 years apart. i wouldn't wish that on myself! but we'll see how many kids God blesses us with. tim still really likes having 2 kids. He wouldn't commit to having another one right now, but he isn't dead set against it either. my theory is that of course we wouldn't want another one right this very minute, but its not always going to be like this. i think ella and lucy are at the most demanding stage in life right now. but when things calm down (maybe it never will!) and tim is out of school and the girls are older and most self sufficient maybe we will have another one! besides that, its ultimately in God's hands. we did all that we could to not have another child when God gave us lucy. there was really only a .01% chance we would get pregnant then and we did! and obviously we wouldn't think of giving lucy back! she is an amazing blessing. it could happen again i suppose, but it would be great to have a planned baby someday.

Our recalled crib has been quite the distraction this week!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we found out that our crib was recalled on Tuesday evening. We immeadiately took Lucy out of her crib and put her in her pack and play. Since she isn't used to sleeping in it, she didn't sleep well that night at all! I was up with her twice and Tim was also up with her very early in the morning. The next day she wouldn't nap either! She was very tried that day and eventually fell asleep in her car seat while we were crib shopping.
I spent a few hours running in and out of stores looking for a crib. I went to 6 Targets that day! They are having great baby sales and I did find a couple of clearance cribs there. Its so strange how every Target is so different! I also went to Burlington and a few Once Upon a Child stores. Later Tim and I took the girls to Babies R Us. It is just so frustrating trying to find a crib that seems sturdy and safe without spending hundreds of dollars! We ended up at the Edina Target where we bought a clearance crib for $97! It was normally $140 so we were excited to find a good deal. We brought it home and put it together and I really started missing our old crib. After hours of looking online for a good deal on a crib, we decided that we will just keep our old one once they send us the new panels. We are also hoping that we can sell the clearance crib once we get the recalled crib fixed. But for right now we have a crib and Lucy is back to sleeping well. She can tell its a different crib though! Its quite funny how she keeps touching it and looking at it oddly. At least she has her familiar blankets and bedding. And like I said, she is sleeping good again! I am so thankful for that!

Lucy started making a new scrunched up face this weekend! Ella thinks its hysterical, and Tim and I think its absolutely adorable!
Ella made the same face when she was around 9 months old. I did too when I was a baby! Maybe it's genetic, or maybe its just a common thing babys do. But of course we think that our babys do it the cutest! ;)

Tonight I was feeding Lucy and getting her ready for bed, and I remembered that we had heard on the news that there were a bunch of cribs recalled. So I decided to check it out. I was not very happy to see that there was a picture of our very crib on the top of the article listing all of the recalled cribs. I immediately set up the pack and play to put Lucy to sleep in. The article about why the cribs are recalled is horrifying! A 6 month old in Iowa died because of one of these cribs. I did go on to find that the parents were charged with negligence and the father had something going on with drugs. But even still, its horrifying! I just finished writing their company a letter about how disappointed we are in them! We have a matching changing table that has been nothing but problems. And now the crib! They are sending out replacement parts, but I am feeling like I don't trust their name at all. I will see how they respond to my letter, but in the meantime I think I am going to be keeping my eye out for a new crib.

Oh how I love Sundays!
This morning was began a little earlier than I expected since Ella woke up at 7:30 am! She normally wakes up at 9 am so this was early for her. I asked her why she was awake and she told me that she was just so excited to go to church and see everyone. She then listed off everyone she was excited to see, including Grandma, Papa, Uncle Caleb, her friends Mason and Shylah, and of course, her "angel." Tim was leaving at this point because he was running the sound board today. This means that I get the girls ready by myself and wait for my mom to pick me up since we don't have a second car right now, today we were ready early enough that we went with my mom to set up, so we were there an hour before church started. It also means that Tim can't help me at all with the girls before, during or after church since he sets up, runs it for practice and then packs it all up again. It can be a little difficult, especially since I had a sleepy Ella today. She was very upset that I couldn't hold her while I fed Lucy. I did my best! We ended up sitting on a chair, all 3 of us, while I fed Lucy her bottle.
We are now home, watching the Vikings game. The girls are both taking naps and homemade calzones are baking in the oven. We really looking forward to watching 24 tonight!

- I did a lot of shopping WITH the girls this week. This is something I have avoided as much as possible. Ella can be pretty crabby when I take her out, and even though Lucy is good she still wants to be out of her carseat and held. I don't blame her, but it sure makes for a crazy outing! We did a bunch of errands on Wednesday and we went to the mall on Thursday with my mom. We were in search of a winter coat for Ella since the one I had bought her for this year did not hold up very well at all. I was incredibly excited to find a great sale at baby gap! I love that store, and I would buy most of my girls clothes there if I could afford it, but when they have sales they are amazing! I found a coat for Ella in a bigger size so it should fit for a few winters. It was originally $60, but I got it for $15! I love deals like that. I also found a coat for her at Old Navy in a bigger size as well. I like having 2 in case one gets dirty, and for $8 I couldn't pass it up! At gap I also found a coat for Lucy for next winter. It is so adorable! Again this one was orginally $50 and I got it for $10! We found some other great deals and I stocked Ella up on size 4t stuff that should fit her next year. She has grown so much this winter! She started out this fall with size 2t being pretty big on her, and now she is in all 3t stuff, although 2t shirts still fit. She is so tall, everyone guesses she is 3! It doesn't help that she tells people that she is 3 too. Sometimes she tells them she is 2, and the other day she even said she was 6! Oh my!
- Ella's ECFE class went great! She loved it and said she wouldn't care if she went by herself. She is becoming Miss Independant all the sudden!
And now I have to go! The girls just woke up!
This morning was began a little earlier than I expected since Ella woke up at 7:30 am! She normally wakes up at 9 am so this was early for her. I asked her why she was awake and she told me that she was just so excited to go to church and see everyone. She then listed off everyone she was excited to see, including Grandma, Papa, Uncle Caleb, her friends Mason and Shylah, and of course, her "angel." Tim was leaving at this point because he was running the sound board today. This means that I get the girls ready by myself and wait for my mom to pick me up since we don't have a second car right now, today we were ready early enough that we went with my mom to set up, so we were there an hour before church started. It also means that Tim can't help me at all with the girls before, during or after church since he sets up, runs it for practice and then packs it all up again. It can be a little difficult, especially since I had a sleepy Ella today. She was very upset that I couldn't hold her while I fed Lucy. I did my best! We ended up sitting on a chair, all 3 of us, while I fed Lucy her bottle.
We are now home, watching the Vikings game. The girls are both taking naps and homemade calzones are baking in the oven. We really looking forward to watching 24 tonight!

- I did a lot of shopping WITH the girls this week. This is something I have avoided as much as possible. Today I braved it and brought both girls shopping with me! Anytime I go anywhere with those 2 I feel like I am packing to go on vacation. There is so much I have to make sure that I remember. Luckily I think I remembered everything important and we had a good time!
We went to Burlington Coat Factory in search for a Christmas dress for Ella for next year and a winter coat for next year. I like to buy them on clearance the year before. I am very disappointed in Ella's coat that she is wearing this year! I bought it at Target a couple of years ago on major clearance. It was really cute until it starts piling really oddly. I am willing to pay more for a good coat that Lucy can wear in a couple years. Unfortunately I am having a hard time finding any cute, discounted coats! I had the same luck with finding a Christmas dress. And why is it halfway into January and Christmas clothes are still full price some places? I guess stores are cashing into people like me who like to buy in advance. I did end up ordering a cute dress online tonight.
We also deposited money into the bank, went to joann fabrics in attempt to get fabric for making blankets... after realizing it would have cost around $30 a blanket we left the fabric there! we also went to the grocery store, and of course target!
Tonight Tim worked later than normal so I took both girls to Adventure Clubs with me. Ella had lots of fun with "her angel" while I checked the kids in. And Lucy loved snuggling with her grandma. I have to explain Ella's "angel." On New Years day my parents had a bunch of people from church over, including one family who has twin boys. Ella was playing with some of the adults and she told us that the mom of the twin boys, Kim, was her angel. Her exact words to her were "you are my angel!" It was so incredibly adorable! She still calls her that, and we think its cute because Kim is such a sweet lady!
Tomorrow I bring Ella to her ECFE class in the morning! Lucy is going grandma's instead of sibcare. I think she is excited to have some alone time with Lucy since Ella normally steals all of the attention. It is pretty early in the morning for those of us that aren't morning people! Although Lucy is quite the snugly little baby, so there shouldn't be any problems.

This week began with Tim going back to school on Monday night. He is on day 2 of waking up at 5 am. I feel bad for him, I know I couldn't do it! I am not a morning person at all! It is so nice that he is has more time to help in the evenings though. I went grocery shopping by myself last night! I almost took Lucy with me. She saw me getting my coat on and started fussing until I held her. I think she knew I was going to leave without her! Tim insisted that I go by myself though. I went to Adventure Club (our church's wed night kids program) to check the kids in first. I left an hour early so I could get to Sam's Club before it closed. I am going to start doing that now... I had to give up a couple of my commitments. I felt terrible, but I am relieved now. I am only committed to signing kids in to Adventure Clubs. I also had to give up being the nursery coordinator for my MOMS Club that I am in. I haven't been to any activities with MOMS for a long time. I am hoping to go to more now. Its so good for me and my kids to get out and be with other kids and moms! We are going to an activity in an hour, actually! I'm excited.
As far as keeping up with cooking and grocery shopping, I am excited to say that my major grocery shopping and freezing meals are a success so far! I have only had to cook twice and I have meals for every night of the week in the freezer ready to go. I also love that I only need to buy the basic perishable foods once a week. My freezer is just packed, though!
The teethers in my life have been making progress. Ella's 2 year molar have taken just forever to come through. But they are almost completely in now! Lucy also got a tooth yesterday! She is such a good teether. She was up late the other night, but that happens sometime anyway. She also spits up more when she teeths too! Ella did too. Its a symptom I haven't really heard of before??
Lucy has also become a great eater of solid foods! I have had to trick her into eating certain veggies. I normally mix it with a little fruit and she loves it! We started meat today since she is almost 7 months. She seemed to like it! She gets very excited when she sees her solid food, I think she is started to prefer it over her bottles.
